Comments:
Got a later start than we intended. It was cold for the swim, with the resulting mist hanging out on top of the water. Swim was short, but we did get to chat with Catherine and Julie who showed up about halfway through our swim.
I changed into dry clothes for the bike, for comfort. It was still damn cold, since I was wearing a sleeveless jersey, but eventually the sun came out and it warmed up. It was another fairly uncomfortable bike for me.. I think my tri shorts need to be retired, 'cause they were rubbing in unfortunate places, and my neck was really bothering me. I went from Barton Springs out to San Marcos and then back. I had a headwind on the way out, and just grin and bore it, knowing I'd have a fun tailwind on the way back, and I surely did. I stopped at the Kyle store on the way out and the way back (got Pringles on the way back), and stopped for about a minute at the San Marcos store to eat part of my sandwich.
I came in a little short of 5 hours, but the area around Zilker was crazy with cars (a ton of things going on thereabouts on Saturday), and I didn't feel like trying to navigate them to add more time. Plus, it's better if I get in before Matt, because otherwise I have to take his bike down off the car, put mine in, and then put his back. I got back and started putting my running shoes on, and Matt rolled up right then. Good timing.
We both took off on our runs at the same time. It was hot by this time. I guess it was only in the 80s, and it'll get much worse later in the year, but it was full sun, and I was tired. It felt like I was crawling, but I guess my pace was better than I thought. Matt and I ended up finishing right at the same time again.
Long day. But satisfying.
