Comments:We did one loop of the bike course to warm up. Of course, right at the beginning was this nasty, nasty hill, which really sucked to go up when you weren't warmed up. And I forgot I had a granny gear, or I surely would have been in it. As it was, I was out of my saddle, and even then nearly toppled over. Then we did a ~1 mile run warmup (from Doss down FarWest to Hart to NorthHills and back).
Then those of us who were pretty new went with Jamie and practiced mounting and dismounting with our shoes in our pedals. I realized almost immediately that the reason I've been having issues with pulling both feet out of the pedals is that my cleats were completely worn down. I couldn't even get my left foot to stay clipped in. So my practice was a little gimpy, but I did get to practice it some. So we rode around the parking lot repeatedly and tried to perfect little bits. Then
deankat came over and looked very scared and sad and talked to Jamie, then Jamie said that we should go back to the other parking lot with the rest of the group. We found out that JennR had collided with another cyclist and was pretty beat up. She refused emergency care, though the ambulance folk did look at her, and ended up back with us and was helped into a car that took her elsewhere. I'm not sure how she's doing now. If anyone knows, please share.
We weren't really sure what to do at that point. It was kinda chaotic, and I wasn't sure where the people who were doing the full workout were in their workout, or what we should be doing, etc. And I was a little freaked out to ride in the trafficy area after that happened. So I grabbed
anricat and told her she should do another run loop with me. When we got done with that, Fish asked if we had cooled down, and we said.. we guessed so. So then we were done.
It was supposed to be warmup (which we did), then run, bike, run, run, bike, run, cooldown. I did way less than half of that. But ohwell. I still got a workout in, learned some mount/dismount technique, and had a good time except for the scary parts.
